Définitivement mon expression préférée !

"Hey Dublin, what’s the craic ? »

Typiquement irlandaise et même Dublinoise, c’est le premier truc qui m’est venu à l’idée pour le titre du blog.
On peut l’employer pour tout et n’importe quoi.
En réalité le Craic n’a pas vraiment de définition à proprement dit… il sera même compliqué à définir pour un irlandais. Car le CRAIC est un mot gaélique qui n’a pas de traduction en anglais, le FUN s’en rapproche le plus…
Le craic est toujours social, c’est à dire que kiffer devant breaking bad dans son lit ne sera pas un craic même si vous kiffez à fond. Par contre … par contre si vous kiffez devant breaking bad avec une guiness et un petit copain ou une petite copine dans votre lit la oui y a un CRAIC !!! Et alors si vous avez plusieurs petits copains ou plusieurs petites copines avec vous le CRAIC devient puissant = THE CRAIC IS MIGHTY !!!

Cela se prononce « crack », du coup à Dublin, je me permets d’utiliser à tout va : « what’s the craic ? »
Traduction : Qu’est ce que tu racontes de fun? What’s up ?
Ou encore : Comment ça va ? / C’est quoi l’histoire (racontes moi un potin) ? Qu’est ce qui se passe de fun dans ta vie depuis qu’on s’est pas vu ?

On peut l’employer sous différentes formes:
- Any Craic ? / What’s the craic with …… ?

Nous avons donc beaucoup employé « Whats the craic with last night ? »
Traduction : « Qu’est ce qui s’est passé hier, on a trop bu il me semble,j’ai un trou noir racontes moi » ahah

En gros le CRAIC c’est du fun, des gossips, de la fête, de la musique et tout ce que qui peut vous faire passer un bon moment à plusieurs.

So :  “Let’s go have some craic”

Irish idiom or maybe Dubliner idiom, I thought about that in first for the title of the blog because you can say « what’s the craic » for whatever you want.
Actually the craic has not english translation, it’s very difficult to translate the craic even for an irish ! It depends on the context. The craic is a gaelic word , maybe « fun » in english is the closest.
The craic is always social. For example when you are in your bed in front of breaking bad – wonderful time you know when walter white at the end of the season 5 kills his wife and his son^^ (come on) – so : watching breaking bad is not a craic…. but if you are watching breaking bad with a guiness and a friend in your bed maybe yeah it’s craic ! But you can do more ! With several friend, the craic become mighty !

In english we pronounce « crack ».

So in Dublin I love to ask « hey, what’s the craic ? »
Translation: What’s up ? What can you tell me about you since last time ? What’s the story ?
So we can ask too : Any Craic ? / What’s the craic with …… ?
Of course we used a lot « Whats the craic with last night ? »
Translation : « What happened last night, I was so drunk , I don’t remember, tell me, was it funny ? »

So the craic is gossip, fun , music, party, drinking, sex, friend… and every thing that spend to you a good time.

So : “Let’s go have some craic”
