Peinture orientaliste – billet n° 11 – Les peintres britanniques

Contrairement à ce que beaucoup de conservateurs britanniques pensaient, il y a bien eu au cours du 19 ème siècle des peintres d’Outre Manche que l’on peut qualifier d’orientalistes. C’est l’exposition de la Tate Britain  » The Lure of the East: British Orientalist Painting » (l’attrait de l’Orient) en 2008 qui a révélé au public cette particularité.

En effet  un certain nombre de peintres britanniques  ont été attirés par l’Orient. Parmi les peintres  orientalistes  – britanniques l’on peut citer   John Frederick Lewis —David Roberts —edward Lear, David Wilkie, Richard Dadd, Lord Leighton, et William Holman Hunt
