The group of seven – Le groupe des sept est créé en 1913 par de jeunes paysagistes canadiens. Ce groupe sera actif jusqu’en 1933. Ils veulent créer un art typiquement canadien, influencé par la nature sauvage de leur pays. Ils vont utiliser des couleurs vives. Leurs œuvres montrent des rivières, des lacs et de forêts, sans présence humaine.
Ils sont bien entendu sept :Franklin Carmichael =Lawren Harris =A. Y. Jackson =Frank Johnston =Arthur Lismer =J. E. H. MacDonald =Frederick Varley. Ils seront rejoint par A. J. Casson Edwin Holgate LeMoine FitzGerald et deux autres artistes leur seront associés : Tom Thomson et Emily Carr
